Hunger Games’ Young President Snow Jokes He Could Teach Ralph Fiennes ‘a Few Things’

Hunger Games star Tom Blyth, who portrayed President Coriolanus Snow in The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, has spoken about Ralph Fiennes being recast in his role in Sunrise on the Reaping. Blyth jokingly said he could “teach” Fiennes “a few things” and also shed light on his future in the fan-favorite film series.

While speaking with ScreenRant, Tom Blyth jokingly said Ralph Fiennes could learn a lot from him before he portrays President Snow on the big screen. “Well, you know, I can probably teach him a few things. He’s still on the rise as an actor, yeah, he’s fairly unknown. But, like, I think he’s gonna have a great career,” Blyth said before bursting into laughter.

Fiennes is set to become the third actor to play President Snow after the late Donald Sutherland, who played the character in the original Hunger Games series, and Tom Blyth. Set 24 years prior to Jennifer Lawrence’s Hunger Games movies, and four decades after the events of The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, the upcoming Sunrise on the Reaping movie will see Fiennes play a 58-year-old version of President Snow.

Despite being 30, Blyth wanted the role for himself and was ready to go to extreme lengths to secure the part. “There was a time where I literally texted Francis Lawrence and Nina Jacobson and said, ‘Look, I’m happy to go through six hours of prosthetics every morning to make me look like a 55-year-old, 60-year-old man,'” he shared.

However, Blyth ultimately made peace with the decision and is now backing his successor with all his heart. “I think they made the right choice. I think Ralph Fiennes can handle it just fine,” the Plainclothes star remarked.

Still, Blyth believes that there is more for him in the Hunger Games franchise and returning as President Snow in a future project is a viable possibility. “We don’t know that we’ll never be back. There’s a good chance that Suzanne [Collins; Hunger Games author] might choose to write another book that features Snow, and his story, and Tigris and everything,” the actor noted.
