Elio Disney+ Release Date Set for Disney & Pixar’s New Animated Sci-Fi Movie

A Disney+ streaming release date for Elio has been set.

Pixar Animation Studios and Walt Disney Pictures’ Elio was released in United States theaters in June 2025. Directed by Madeline Sharafian, Domee Shi, and Adrian Molina, the animated sci-fi movie made around $154 million at the global box office.

Elio will be available to stream on Disney+ on September 17, 2025.

“Elio, a space fanatic with an active imagination, finds himself on a cosmic misadventure where he must form new bonds with eccentric alien lifeforms, navigate a crisis of intergalactic proportions, and somehow discover who he is truly meant to be,” the synopsis for the movie reads.

The film’s voice cast includes Yonas Kibreab as Elio Solís, Zoe Saldaña as Olga Solís, Remy Edgerly as Glordon, Brandon Moon as Helix, Brad Garrett as Lord Grigon, Jameela Jamil as Questa, Dylan Gilmer as Bryce, Jake Getman as Caleb, Matthias Schweighöfer as Tegmen, Ana de la Reguera as Turais, Atsuko Okatsuka as Naos, and Shirley Henderson as Ooooo.

Elio received mostly positive reviews from critics, as the film currently has an 83 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes with 220 reviews. ComingSoon’s Jonathan Sim gave the movie an 8/10 score, which equates to “great.”

Sim wrote in his review, “Elio is classic Pixar at its best. Emotionally resonant, visually stunning, and brimming with heart. The film blends intergalactic spectacle with an intimate story about identity, loneliness, and connection. Kibreab delivers a standout vocal performance as a boy thrust into the universe’s spotlight while still figuring out who he is. Elio is also available to rent on digital outlets, while it can now additionally be purchased on 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD.
