Superman’s Box Office Is Still Behind First 6 DCEU Movies

James Gunn’s Superman has successfully won over both fans and critics, while setting the stage for an extended universe that is to follow. However, the movie has not performed as well financially as many previous DC blockbusters, with a box office total that was lower than initially expected. Superman’s box office cume has fallen short of the box office collections of six DCEU movies, despite making a healthy profit.

Despite its impressive profit Superman’s box office falls behind these DCEU movies

According to a recent report, the box office performance of 2025’s Superman should fetch Warner Bros. Pictures $125 million in profit, having taken $614 million at the global box office (via Box Office Mojo). Nevertheless, the first theatrical entry in James Gunn’s new DCU has still failed to surpass the collections of several DCEU films, with as many as six films from the older superhero franchise having taken in more. Here’s a rundown of the DCEU films that boast better box-office numbers than Superman.

6. Justice League – $661,324,295

Even though the theatrical version of Justice League failed to impress critics as well as many fans, the 2017 film managed to earn about $46 million more than Superman at the global box office. However, considering that Justice League was the first time that DC superheroes teamed up on the big screen, fans expected the movie to earn a lot more, making it a flop overall for Warner Bros.

5. Man of Steel – $670,145,518

12 years after its premiere, Man of Steel is still the highest-grossing solo outing for Superman, having brought in approximately $56 million more than Gunn’s new film. While Man of Steel may have beaten Superman in overall numbers, the 2025 film appears to have turned a healthier profit.

4. Suicide Squad – $749,200,054

Another critically panned addition to the DCEU, Suicide Squad ended up becoming a box office hit in 2016 thanks to its colorful characters and big star turns from the likes of Margot Robbie and Will Smith.

3. Wonder Woman – $822,963,408

Wonder Woman was the first entry in the DCEU that earned critical acclaim and paved the way for more female-led superhero movies to be produced. Released in 2017, the film saw Gal Gadot take on the titular role.

2. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice – $874,360,194

Another extremely divisive addition to the DCEU, Batman v Superman managed to earn just shy of $900 million at the box office. However, like the DCEU Justice League film, the film’s hefty price tag and the high expectations surrounding it caused this large box office haul to still be considered unsatisfactory at the time.

1. Aquaman – $1,151,961,807

The only DCEU movie to break the $1 billion mark, Aquaman is the highest-grossing DC movie of all time. While the film made a respectable $335 million on the domestic front, it took in a colossal haul of $816 million internationally.
