The Conjuring: Last Rites Reviews Are Divisive, Gets Lackluster Rotten Tomatoes Score
New Line Cinema’s The Conjuring: Last Rites movie has received its initial Rotten Tomatoes score, ahead of the horror thriller’s U.S. theatrical release this Friday, September 5. This comes after the first reviews for the fourth and final installment of its long-running horror blockbuster franchise have arrived, following its early debut in international theaters.
What is The Conjuring: Last Rites’ Rotten Tomatoes score?
The Conjuring: Last Rites currently holds a Tomatometer rating of 62% on Rotten Tomatoes. This was based on mixed reviews from 37 critics who praised Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga‘s final performances as Ed and Lorraine Warren, but were disappointed by the movie’s lack of scares. However, some felt that the movie was actually a fitting end to Ed and Lorraine’s story. 2021’s The Devil Made Me Do It remains as the franchise’s lowest-rated installment with a 56% rating, while its first installment continues to be its highest-rated movie with an 86% Tomatometer score
In our review of Last Rites, we called the movie “somewhat predictable,” but a nice goodbye. “Wilson and Farmiga’s performances as the Warrens because they’ve had one hell of a run, and they’re now a significant part of horror pop culture. The final moments of this movie do a good job of sending them off.”
The movie is directed by Michael Chaves from a screenplay written by Ian Goldberg and Richard Naing, based on a story by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick and franchise creator James Wan. The movie also stars Mia Tomlinson as Judy Warren and Ben Hardy as Tony Spera. The ensemble cast also includes Elliot Cowan, Madison Lawlor, Orion Smith, Beau Gadsdon, Peter Wight, Kate Fahy, Kíla Lord Cassidy, and more. It is produced by Wan and Peter Safran, with Michael Clear and Judson Scott serving as executive producers.
