Sydney Sweeney’s The Housemaid Movie Scores Earlier Release Date
The release date for The Housemaid starring Sydney Sweeney has been moved up.
The Housemaid is a new Lionsgate movie directed by Paul Feig (A Simple Favor, Bridesmaids) that arrives this coming December. Based on the 2022 novel by Freida McFadden, it stars Sweeney as Millie, Amanda Seyfried as Nina Winchester, Brandon Sklenar as Andrew Winchester, and Michele Morrone as Enzo.
When is the new release date for The Housemaid?
Per Deadline, the release date for The Housemaid has been bumped up by about a week. Rather than opening on Christmas, the film will now hit theaters on December 19, 2025.
This means that The Housemaid will now be opening on the same day as James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash, as well as The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants. It previously shared a release date with Columbia Pictures’ new Anaconda movie and Josh Safdie’s Marty Supreme starring Timothée Chalamet.
“In The Housemaid, Millie (Sweeney) is trying to escape her past and accepts a job as a live-in housemaid for the wealthy Nina (Seyfried) and Andrew Winchester (Sklenar),” Deadline’s description of the movie reads. But what begins as a dream job quickly unravels into something far more dangerous — a sexy, seductive game of secrets, scandal, and power. Behind the Winchesters’ closed doors lies a world of shocking twists that will leave you guessing until the very end.”
Todd Lieberman, Feig, and Laura Fischer serve as producers on the movie, while Rebecca Sonnenshine wrote the screenplay.
McFadden’s novel, it’s worth noting, was followed by two sequels, 2023’s The Housemaid’s Secret and 2024’s The Housemaid Is Watching, meaning that, if this first movie is a hit, this could be a new franchise for Lionsgate. No plans for any additional Housemaid movies beyond the first one, however, have been officially announced at this time.
