Dwayne Johnson Weight Loss Transformation Stuns Fans
Dwayne Johnson, who is set to star in the upcoming Benny Safdie film The Smashing Machine, recently showed off a stunning weight loss transformation for the film’s premiere.
During an appearance at The Venice Film Festival this past weekend, Johnson and the film’s cast arrived to watch the film. Notably, though, fans were shocked at how much slimmer Johnson looked. While still fairly muscular, the wrestler-turned-actor looked significantly less bulked up than he did in recent appearances in WWE.

What’s behind Dwayne Johnson’s surprise weight loss?
While the exact reason for Johnson’s weight loss is unknown, it likely has to do with a combination of his lack of in-ring competition and his role in The Smashing Machine. In order to match the role of UFC fighter Mark Kerr, Johnson not only slimmed down a bit, but also spent some time in the make-up chair every day to achieve a different look.
As for his performance in the ring, Johnson hasn’t appeared much in WWE this year. He was originally a major part of the storyline that saw John Cena turn heel, but has distanced himself from the company as of late, with no confirmed appearances set for the time being.
The Smashing Machine is written and directed by Safdie. The ensemble cast also includes Emily Blunt as Dawn Staples, Lyndsey Gavin as Elizabeth Coleman, Oleksandr Usyk as Igor Vovchanchyn, Ryan Bader as Mark Coleman, Satoshi Ishii as Enson Inoue, James Moontasri as Akira Shoji, Yoko Hamamura as Kazuyuki Fujita, and more.
The Smashing Machine is set to release in theaters on October 3, 2025.
