Scarface: MCU Star Developing New Movie, Reveals First Details

Newly-launched production company Pinstripes is currently developing a modern remake of Scarface, based on the 1930 novel written by Armitage Trail. It was famously adapted by director Brian De Palma in 1983, with award-winning actor Al Pacino playing one of his most memorable roles to date.

Who will lead the new Scarface movie?

During a recent interview with Deadline, Captain America: Brave New World star Danny Ramirez confirmed that he will be leading the new Scarface movie, which he is currently developing with creative partner Tom Culliver through their production banner Pinstripes. This comes ahead of the world premiere of their company’s debut feature, Dead Man’s Wire, which is a true-crime drama directed by Gus Van Sant.

“One of the larger pieces of IP that we’re adapting at the minute is Scarface. Obviously, Danny will play Scarface. We want to modernize it, adapting the original novel,” Culliver said. “We’re independently developing it; we have some development financing in place. Obviously, there’s the Pacino legacy of it from the ’80s and then the original 1932 movie, but I think it’s ripe for modernizing, and to have someone like Danny in the lead is really exciting.”

The Top Gun: Maverick star admitted that getting the chance to lead a Scarface movie is a dream come true for him, especially when he’s able to deliver his own interpretation of the story.

Ramirez added, “Scarface, to us, is the one that it’s been a dream role to play, but also to develop it in a way that I understand it. I think in 2025, it’s more relevant now than ever. So that’s where we’re excited to take this on.”

The original novel was inspired by real-life gangster Al Capone. In the 1983 version, it chronicled the rise and fall of Cuban immigrant Tony Montana, who became the biggest drug lord in the state of Miami. Before the Al Pacino remake, Scarface was actually first adapted into film in 1932 by director Howard Hawks, with legendary actor Paul Muni playing Tony Camonte.
