Back to the Future Gets 2025 Rerelease, What You Need to Know

The iconic 1985 film Back to the Future is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, and fans can now travel back in time and watch the legendary movie in theaters again.

IMAX announced this week that it will bring back the sci-fi classic for a special theatrical rerelease just in time for the film’s 40th anniversary. Alongside a pair of new posters for the film, they also revealed when the movie is heading back to theaters.

When is Back to the Future returning to theaters?

Back to the Future will return to theaters on October 31, 2025, when the film will be available to watch in IMAX. Tickets for the rerelease are available now on IMAX’s website.

To celebrate the film’s return to theaters, IMAX has released a new trailer for the movie, as well as a pair of posters, which you can check out below:

Originally released in 1985, Back to the Future was directed by Robert Zemeckis and stars Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Lea Thompson, Crispin Glover, and Thomas F. Wilson. The movie is the first in a trilogy of films, and follows the story of Marty McFly (Fox), a teenager who is sent back to 1955 in a time-traveling DeLorean.

The Back to the Future franchise is one of the biggest sci-fi franchises ever. The first film, in particular, is often heralded as one of the greatest movies ever made. In 2007, the United States Library of Congress selected the film for preservation in the National Film Registry. Following its release, two sequel films were released in 1989 and 1990.
