James Gunn Confirms if Chris Pratt Is DCU’s Batman or Someone Else

James Gunn recently addressed Batman and Chris Pratt’s potential role in the DC Universe. In a new interview, he responded to speculation about the casting and hinted at future possibilities for the actor in the DCU.

James Gunn confirms Chris Pratt won’t be Batman in DCU

While speaking with PelucheEn ElEstuche, James Gunn faced a direct question about whether fans would get to see Chris Pratt as Bruce Wayne in the DCU. Gunn responded, “As Batman? No. As something else? Yes.” He emphasized Pratt’s potential for another role, noting, “Chris Pratt’s one of my best friends. We talk all the time. He’s a great guy, and he would love to do something at DC. I would love for him to do something at DC.”

Batman will return in a reboot for Gunn’s DCU with The Brave and the Bold, announced in January 2023. The project will feature a new version of the Dark Knight alongside his son Damian Wayne as Robin. Andy Muschietti, director of It and It Chapter Two, will helm the movie. Writers are reportedly developing the script, and Gunn has not revealed any casting details for Batman.

In the same interview, Gunn dismissed other speculative roles for Pratt in a lighthearted way. When asked if Pratt might play Wonder Woman, Gunn said, “He would be a terrible Wonder Woman. That would be terrible.” He also denied the idea of Pratt as Shazam, saying, “No. I don’t think so,” and when pressed about which character Pratt could play, Gunn replied, “I have to think about it.”

Gunn confirmed that some of his former Marvel collaborators are already appearing in DC projects. He explained, “For audiences who have seen Superman, they already know there are a couple of people in Superman that I worked with at Marvel.” This reflects his intention to continue collaborating with actors he trusts while reshaping the DC Universe.

Although Pratt will not portray Batman, Gunn’s comments leave the door open for the actor’s eventual involvement in another role within the DCU.

The Brave and the Bold remains without a set release date as development continues.
