Twilight Star Shares a Prequel Idea for Controversial Character

While the Twilight saga may have concluded 13 years ago, Jackson Rathbone, who played the role of Jasper Hale in the fan-favorite film series, remains hopeful of expanding his character’s story on the big screen. In a recent discussion, the multi-faceted artist noted that if it were up to him, he would build upon the Twilight franchise through a prequel which would focus on the troubled yet extensive history of his conflicted character.

Jackson Rathbone says he would ‘love to see Jasper’s story’ in a Twilight prequel

While speaking with Collider‘s Maggie Lovitt at the recently conducted Fan Expo Canada, Jackson Rathbone revealed that he is still enthusiastic about reprising the role of Jasper in a potential Twilight spin-off.

“I actually would really love to see Jasper’s story be told, and it would be one of those things where they have the technology, they can de-age me — it’d be sweet,” the 40-year-old actor said. Rathbone also confessed that if such a project were to materialize with some other actor, he’d welcome the decision with open arms. “I’m also open to passing the torch,” he remarked.

Talking about how a Jasper-centric Twilight prequel could explore his character’s rich history as a Confederate soldier-turned-vampire, Rathbone noted, “We don’t have to see everything on screen… I think we have to allow ourselves to have imagination, allow ourselves to see that a character can have a past that maybe we don’t know verbatim, or that there is a possibility of redemption.”

He even pointed out the flaws embedded in Jasper’s morality, accepting that the character did not have the kindest of hearts before he joined the Cullens. Nevertheless, his growth by the end of the Twilight series, where Jasper manages to redeem himself to an extent, is enough for Rathbone to revisit the part.

“It’s a story, to me, about redemption. It’s a story, to me, about forgiveness. And it’s a story, to me, about learning to love yourself through the eyes of others, and it’s a beautiful experience,” he explained.
