Another TMNT Movie Is Coming Back to Theaters

The first live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie recently celebrated its 35th anniversary. This event was marked with a special Fathom Events rerelease. Now, a similar rerelease is being planned for the original film’s sequel, TMNT II: The Secret of the Ooze.

Picking up where the original film left off, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze explores the origins of the titular team. The film builds to another confrontation with the sinister Shredder and his own mutant monster creations. However, the film is perhaps most famous for an extended cameo by rapper Vanilla Ice and the campy “Ninja Rap” sequence.

When is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze’s theatrical rerelease?

When the original TMNT was given a Fathom Events rerelease, it was expected to do well. However, the original two-night screening was expanded twice due to the speed with which the initial run sold out. First, to a one-week theatrical rerelease. Then, to a two-week theatrical rerelease.

”The devoted fans of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise have shown up in
droves with so much passion and enthusiasm in celebration of the iconic film’s 35th anniversary, Fathom Entertainment is thrilled to extend its theatrical run for a third time
and add an additional full week in select theatres until August 28,” noted Fathom Entertainment’s CEO Ray Nutt. “With more than $3M in box office revenues in the early days of its theatrical return engagement. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 35th Anniversary is currently the highest-grossing 2025 classic/repertory film for Fathom Entertainment.”

Given that unprecedented success, it makes sense for Fathom Entertainment to prepare a similarly big release for the 35th anniversary of TMNT II. Nutt confirmed that such an event is tentatively planned for March 2026. However, Turtle fans can continue to see the original in theaters through August 28.
