The upcoming Highlander remake with Henry Cavill has added another big star.

Chad Stahelski is directing a new Highlander movie for Amazon MGM’s United Artists banner. The movie will see Man of Steel’s Cavill play Connor MacLeod, a character who was originally played by Christopher Lambert in the original 1986 film.

Guardians of the Galaxy star Karen Gillan has also now joined the cast of the remake. Per The Hollywood Reporter, she’ll play Heather, “MacLeod’s mortal wife and the love of his life.” Heather was played by Beatie Edney in the first Highlander movie.

In addition to playing the MCU’s Nebula, Gillan is known for playing Amy Pond in Doctor Who. Her filmography further includes 2013’s Oculus, 2015’s The Big Short, 2017’s Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, 2019’s Jumanji: The Next Level, 2021’s Gunpowder Milkshake, 2024’s The Life of Chuck, and more.

Gillan retweeted the casting news on Twitter with the caption, “Dialect coach can sit this one out…”

What else do we know about the Highlander remake?

In addition to Cavill and Gillan, the new Highlander remake will star Russell Crowe as Ramirez and Dave Bautista as a warrior named The Kurgen. Industry’s Marisa Abela also has a leading role in the movie.

The script comes from Michael Finch, while Scott Stuber, Nick Nesbitt, Neal H. Moritz, Josh Davis, Louise Rosner, and Stahelski’s 87Eleven Entertainment serve as producers on the project. Filming is expected to begin next month.

A description of the 1986 movie reads, “When the mystical Russell Nash (Christopher Lambert) kills a man in a sword fight in a New York City parking lot, he leaves a sliver of an ancient weapon lodged in a car in the process. After brilliant forensics specialist Brenda Wyatt (Roxanne Hart) recovers evidence of the mysterious weapon, she and her partner, Lt. Frank Moran (Alan North), embark on an investigation Of Nash that will land them in the middle of a dangerous, centuries-old feud between powerful immortals.”
