
Adam Sandler’s Happy Gilmore 2 Budget Is So Massive It Broke Records
The total budget for Happy Gilmore 2‘s 64-day production in New Jersey broke records for the state. The news comes a month after the Adam Sandler-led sequel made its debut on Netflix.
How much was Happy Gilmore 2’s budget?
The New Jersey Motion Picture and Television Commission (NJMPTVC) announced that Netflix spent $152.5 million during the New Jersey production of Happy Gilmore 2, where it was shot in in 31 municipalities and 9 counties across the state. This makes it the most expensive movie that was ever filmed in the state, with an average $2.3 million spent per day of production. In addition, the streamer reportedly spent $1.2 million on lodging and $6.4 million on hiring extras.
“Happy Gilmore 2 showcases New Jersey’s exceptional versatility in doubling as a variety of locations,” NJMPTVC executive Jon M. Crowley said in a statement. “From golf courses and universities, to airports, beaches, and quintessential suburban neighborhoods, New Jersey has everything a production company desires. We look forward to welcoming more and more productions to the Garden State.”
Prior to this announcement, it previously revealed that Happy Gilmore 2 had also broke streaming records for Netflix. This includes earning 46.7 million views in its first three days, making its the best opening for any Sandler project on the platform. Besides Sandler, the sequel also stars Christopher McDonald, Benny Safdie, Bad Bunny, Travis Kelce, Sunny Sandler, Sadie Sandler, Ben Stiller, Maxwell Jacob Friedman, Ethan Cutkosky, Philip Fine Schneider, Conor Sherry, and more.
