Canceled Saw X Sequel Gets Plot Details From Franchise Producer

Amid rumors of upper-management issues leading to the scrapping of Saw XI, long-time franchise producer Oren Koules has shared some details about how the canceled sequel could’ve panned out. In a recent interview, the Evolution Entertainment co-founder shed some light on the plot of the scrapped eleventh entry in the fan-favorite horror franchise, while also explaining why the project failed to make it to the screen.

What Saw XI could have looked like if it weren’t canceled

While speaking with ComicBook.com about his upcoming thriller film Trust, Koules noted that the canceled Saw XI would’ve taken place right after the events of its predecessor.

“We had everybody in, including Synnøve [Macody Lund], coming back from Saw X,” the veteran film producer revealed. “She’s amazing. The script that we had was going to take place 30 seconds after Saw X ended,” Koules added.

Sandwiched between the events of the original Saw movie from 2004 and its sequel, Saw X revolved around John Kramer’s journey in Mexico in search of a treatment for his cancer. Having paid for treatment from Macody Lund’s Cecilia Pederson, Kramer soon realizes that her whole operation is a scam. So, he dons the mantle of the Jigsaw Killer to exact revenge on Pederson and her accomplices, believing he has killed all of them by the end of the film.

An alternate ending for Saw X saw Macody Lund’s character make it out of Jigsaw’s puzzle alive, setting the scene for the canceled Saw XI. However, Koules has now divulged that a “difference of opinion” with Twisted Pictures co-founder and Saw franchise co-producer Mark Burg ended up derailing the project altogether.

Notably, Koules’ comments sit in line with Patrick Melton’s statements regarding why Saw XI got canceled. Melton, who co-wrote the script for the film alongside Marcus Dunstan, stated in a previous interview that the stalling around Saw XI “has nothing to do with the creative or anything else” and that “there’s higher-level things at play.”
