Former James Bond Actor Wants to Play 007 Again in Denis Villeneuve Movie

One former James Bond actor wouldn’t mind starring in Denis Villeneuve’s 007 movie.

Dune and Arrival director Denis Villeneuve has been tapped to direct the next James Bond movie for Amazon MGM Studios. This comes after the company obtained full creative control over the 007 franchise through a joint venture deal with Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli.

What did Pierce Brosnan say about James Bond?

Speaking with Radio Times, via Variety, Pierce Brosnan said he’d be open to returning to the James Bond role should Villeneuve have “something up his sleeve.”

“I don’t think anyone wants to see a craggy, 72-year-old Bond, but if Villeneuve had something up his sleeve, I would look at it in a heartbeat,” he said. “Why not? It’s great entertainment. It could be lots of laughs. Bald caps, prosthetics… who knows?”

Brosnan’s version of 007 debuted in 1995’s GoldenEye, which was directed by Martin Campbell. He then returned for three sequels — 1997’s Tomorrow Never Dies, 1999’s The World Is Not Enough, and 2002’s Die Another Day — before Daniel Craig then inherited the role in 2006’s Casino Royale.

While Villeneuve’s James Bond movie will likely cast an all-new James Bond, there’s always a chance that Brosnan could cameo in the film or have some sort of minor supporting role. He still appears in movies frequently, as he’ll soon be seen playing Ron Ritchie in The Thursday Murder Club, which arrives later this month.

Brosnan also said about Villeneuve’s movie, “I have been listening to the drumbeat of expectation of who’s going to be the next James Bond. There are many great candidates out there, and I’m sure they’re going to make it a spectacle of delight.”

Amazon MGM Studios’ James Bond movie does not yet have a release date, though it will likely still be a few years away, as Villeneuve is currently working on Dune 3.
