Former Riverdale Actor Says She Wants To Play This X-Men Character

As rumors surrounding the cast of Marvel’s upcoming X-Men reboot continue to pick up pace on the internet, Madelaine Petsch has added to to speculations by revealing what character she would like to play in a new project. Petsch, who is most famous for playing Cheryl Blossom in Riverdale, recently divulged that even though she is not the biggest MCU fan, embodying this Omega-level mutant is definitely on her acting wishlist.

Madelaine Petsch wants to play Jean Grey in MCU’s X-Men reboot

During a conversation with The Direct at the San Diego Comic-Con, where Petsch was busy promoting her upcoming horror feature, The Strangers – Chapter 2, the 30-year-old actress noted that she would very much like to join the cast of the forthcoming X-Men reboot as Jean Grey.

“Jean Grey, obviously. Hello. I’ve not seen many Marvel films. ‘Many’ is an operative term for zero, but I have been seeing some fan casts for Jean Grey, and I’ve done my research, and that seems like it’d be really fun,” the Riverdale alum remarked.

So far, internet theories surrounding the role of Jean Grey in the untitled X-Men film have not included Madelaine Petsch, with most cast rumors circling around the likes of Elle Fanning, Daisy Edgar-Jones, and others. However, with Marvel Studios yet to announce any official cast members for the new film, it’s possible that Petsch can secure the role she seems so eager to play.

The powerful yet complex part of Jean Grey, aka The Phoenix, has been played on the big screens by two actresses so far. Famke Janssen first took on the mantle of the telekinetic superhero in 2000’s X-Men, before reprising her role on four more occasions. Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner succeeded Janssen in the following X-Men films, playing Jean Grey in two films.

Marvel Studios has confirmed that Thunderbolts* director Jake Schreier will helm the much-anticipated X-Men reboot. While Kevin Feige has yet to share any official details regarding the cast and the release date of the new X-Men film, it’s expected to hit theaters sometime in late 2028.
