Shrek 5 Delayed, New Release Date Set

The Shrek 5 release date has been delayed, with the movie now set to release in 2027 instead of next year.

When is the new Shrek 5 release date?

Universal and DreamWorks Animation have set the new Shrek 5 release date for June 30, 2027. The film was previously set to release on December 23, 2026, but with a ton of other high-profile films also set to release around the holidays in 2026, Shrek will instead look to the summer.

This is the second delay for Shrek 5 since the film’s original reveal. The fifth entry in the franchise was originally set to release on July 1, 2026, but was pushed back earlier this year. Shrek 5 will be directed by Conrad Vernon and Walt Dohrn from screenplay written by Michael McCullers. The new installment comes after over a decade since the theatrical release of Shrek Forever After.

The sequel will once again feature the voices of returning cast members Mike Myers as Shrek, Eddie Murphy as Donkey, and Cameron Diaz as Princess Fiona. Joining them will be Zendaya, who plays Felicia, the teenage daughter of Shrek and Fiona.

It’s worth noting that, as revealed in 2007’s Shrek the Third, Shrek’s wife Fiona (voiced by Cameron Diaz) gives birth to triplets, though it’s not clear if their other two children will also have roles in Shrek 5 or who will be voicing them.

Plot details and further casting information for Shrek 5 remains largely mysterious as of now.
