Terminator: James Cameron Reveals Why He’s Having Issues Writing Script

James Cameron has given an update on the potential of a new Terminator movie, and it might disappoint fans.

What did James Cameron say about the new Terminator movie?

In a recent interview with CNN about his upcoming movie on Hiroshima, Cameron said he had been tasked with writing a “new Terminator story,” but has admittedly found it to be tougher than he thought to write any science fiction works. Part of that, Cameron said, is due to the age we are currently living in.

“I’m at a point right now where I have a hard time writing science fiction,” said Cameron. “I’m tasked with writing a new Terminator story. I’ve been unable to get started on that very far because I don’t know what to say that won’t be overtaken by real events. We are living in a science fiction age right now, and the only way out is through.

“By using our intelligence, by using our curiosity, by using our command of technology. But also, by really understanding the stark probabilities that we face.”

Among his many iconic films, Cameron was also the writer and director of both the original 1984 film The Terminator and its follow-up, Terminator 2: Judgment Day. Since the franchise’s inception, six movies have been made, with the most recent being 2019’s Terminator: Dark Fate, directed by Tim Miller.

It’s currently unclear exactly what project Cameron is referring to when he says he’s been tasked with writing a new Terminator project. It’s also unknown whether it will be connected to Dark Fate in any way, as that film served as a direct sequel to Terminator 2: Judgment Day, and largely ignored the events of Terminator’s many sequels.
