
Lily James Changes the Rules of Online Dating in Swiped Trailer
Hulu has shared the official Swiped trailer for 20th Century Studios’ upcoming biographical drama, which chronicles the rise of the woman behind the popular dating app Bumble. The movie will have its world premiere on September 9 at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival. It will then debut exclusively on Hulu on September 19.
Inspired by the provocative real-life story of the visionary founder of online dating platform Bumble, “Swiped” introduces recent college grad Whitney Wolfe, played by Lily James, as she uses extraordinary grit and ingenuity to break into the male-dominated tech industry and launch an innovative, globally lauded dating app (two, actually), paving the way to becoming the youngest female self-made billionaire.

What happens in the Swiped trailer?
The video introduces Golden Globe nominee Lily James as Whitney Wolfe, who is best known as the founder of the online dating app Bumble. It teases how she became the world’s youngest female self-made billionaire in 2021, after making a breakthrough in the male-dominated world of the tech industry. It also highlights how she went up against the executives of Tinder, which she was actually the first dating app she co-founded.
Swiped is directed by Unpregnant filmmaker Rachel Lee Goldenberg from a screenplay she co-wrote with Bill Parker and Kim Caramele. Besides James, the movie will also feature Jackson White, Myha’la, Ben Schnetzer, Pierson Fodé, Clea DuVall, Pedro Correa, Ian Colleti, Coral Peña, and Dan Stevens. It is being produced by James, Jennifer Gibgot, and Andrew Panay.
