Fantastic Four 2: First Steps Writer Talks MCU Sequel Possibilities
Writer Eric Pearson has shared some thoughts about what Marvel Studios’ Fantastic Four 2 could look like.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps is now playing in United States theaters. Directed by Matt Shakman, the MCU movie stars Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/The Thing, and Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/Human Torch.
Following First Steps, the Fantastic Four will return in Avengers: Doomsday, which is currently in production and has a 2026 release date. That will be followed by another Avengers movie, Avengers: Secret Wars, in 2027, while a sequel to First Steps was reported to be in development in June 2025.
What did Eric Pearson say about Fantastic Four 2?
Speaking with ComicBook, Pearson was asked where he’d like to take the Fantastic Four next in a sequel to First Steps.
“I don’t know. I honestly don’t know. I’m such a literal person that I would need to understand the fallout of how everything looks and who knows who out of Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars. I don’t know where we are all sitting. Sometimes, when everything is on the table, you don’t know what to eat.
“Would it be cool to see them in a murder mystery together? Sure. Would it be cool to see them in a time-travelling romp? Sure, that would be cool. There are all these different things, but you don’t want to completely upset the apple cart. I feel like anything I’d have to say really doesn’t matter until we see how all our favorite characters survive the upcoming adventures with Victor von Doom.”
Marvel’s Fantastic Four 2 does not have a release date at this time. Avengers: Doomsday arrives on December 18, 2026, while Avengers: Secret Wars is currently dated for December 17, 2027.
