Netflix Reboots Beloved William Shatner Show With Movie

Netflix has acquired the film rights to the upcoming T.J. Hooker remake of the classic ’80s police drama series, which was led by Star Trek vet William Shatner. The original featured Shatner as a veteran police sergeant who decided to demote himself from being a detective to a uniformed patrolman after his partner was killed on duty during a bank robbery.

The original show was created by Rick Husky. It ran on-air for five seasons from 1982-1986. Besides Shatner, the cast also included Adrian Zmed, April Clough, Heather Locklear, Richard Head, James Darren, and Hugh Farrington. Prior to its conclusion, it was originally canceled by ABC in 1985, but was able to survive for one more season after CBS picked up the show for 17 more episodes and one TV movie.

Who’s involved in the Netflix reboot of the William Shatner show?

The T.J. Hooker movie adaptation will be written by Jarrad Paul and Andy Mogel. It will be produced by Sophie Cassidy and Matt Crespy for 2.0 Entertainment, Adrian Askarieh for Prime Universe Films, and Alex Westmore for Vali Vista Films. Husky has also boarded the project as an executive producer. At the moment, it’s still unclear if Shatner would be involved in the movie reboot. Further details about its plot and characters are still under wraps, but it is being described as an action comedy.

“The show follows Sgt. T.J. Hooker of the LCPD, a hard-nosed veteran reeling from a divorce from his wife and the loss of his partner in the line of duty,” reads the original synopsis. “Principled, moral, and driven to fight crime, the former plainclothes detective returns to uniform to train recruits and clean up the streets of criminals like the kind who killed his partner.”
