Fantastic Four Box Office Looking at a Bigger Drop Than Superman in 2nd Weekend

The Fantastic Four: First Steps is entering a critical phase at the box office as it approaches its second weekend. Following a strong $117.6 million opening, the film now faces a projected drop of up to 60%, a key test for its momentum. With new competition entering theaters and the future of the MCU hinging on its success, all eyes are on how the reboot holds in the days ahead.

How much will The Fantastic Four: First Steps make in its second weekend?

Disney and Marvel Studios expect The Fantastic Four: First Steps to earn between $45 million and $52 million in its second weekend, marking a 55% to 60% drop from its $117.6 million debut (via Variety).

In five days, the film has collected $142.3 million domestically and $241.3 million worldwide. On Tuesday, it brought in $14.2 million, a 36.5% increase from Monday, making it the fourth-highest Tuesday total of 2025.

By comparison, Superman fell by 54% in its second weekend, earning $57.3 million after an opening of $125 million (via ABC News). At the same point in its run, Superman had grossed $296.7 million domestically and $510.8 million worldwide. Despite a smaller domestic total, Fantastic Four opened more than 10% higher than Superman in international markets. Marvel titles have historically shown stronger performance in overseas territories.

According to Variety, The Fantastic Four: First Steps is Marvel’s first film of 2025 to open above $100 million and the studio’s first successful post-pandemic launch of a new superhero team. The film carries an “A-” CinemaScore and an 86% Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Kevin Feige stated, “It literally is not connected to anything we’ve made before,” emphasizing that First Steps is a standalone entry that does not require previous MCU knowledge.

Paramount targets a $15 million to $17 million debut for The Naked Gun reboot, which stars Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson. DreamWorks projects The Bad Guys 2 to open between $20 million and $25 million. These releases mark the first direct competition for Fantastic Four, which previously faced no major tentpole challengers.

Marvel valued its promotional campaign for First Steps at $170 million, exceeding the media pushes for Deadpool & Wolverine and Jurassic World: Rebirth. Analysts predict the MCU reboot will depend heavily on international markets to maintain long-term earnings.
