Avatar 3 fans adore Fire and Ash trailer’s visuals

The trailer for Avatar: Fire and Ash has taken fans by surprise with its dramatic visuals and detailed CGI.

The preview reveals explosive imagery, volcanic landscapes, and a new fiery antagonist named Varang, played by Oona Chaplin. On X (formerly Twitter), users described the footage as “insane,” with one noting, “Every frame in Avatar : Fire and Ash looks like a painting.” Another fan wrote, “The teaser to avatar 3 was better than every movie so far in 2025 btw.” One X user stated, “Just rewatched AVATAR Fire and Ash trailer & why the hell am i already crying my eyes out.”

Director James Cameron confirmed to Empire that Varang leads the Mangkwan Clan, also known as the Ash People. “Varang is the leader of a people who have gone through an incredible hardship. She’s hardened by that,” he said. The trailer shows Varang confronting Kiri (Sigourney Weaver), declaring, “Your goddess has no dominion here.”

Set for release on December 19, 2025, the third installment continues the story of Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña) as they face renewed threats from humans and fellow Na’vi.

The Ash People differ from earlier clans, with their territory marked by volcanic damage. Cameron explained that the film would not follow the previous moral binaries, saying, “We’re trying to evolve beyond the ‘all humans are bad, all Na’vi are good’ paradigm.”

The trailer also introduces the Wind Traders, or Tlalim Clan, led by Peylak (David Thewlis). Costume designer Deborah L. Scott described them to Empire as “upbeat, happy, colourful.” She added, “It’s like the circus is in town.”

Kate Winslet returns as Ronal, and Jack Champion reprises his role as Spider. The trailer shows humans capturing Jake Sully. Fire and Ash will lead into Avatar 4 (2029) and Avatar 5 (2031).
