‘A Horror Masterpiece’: Weapons First Reactions Are in for Josh Brolin Movie

Zach Cregger’s new horror movie Weapons is receiving immense praise from critics in its first reactions. The movie has a talented star cast including Josh Brolin, Julia Garner, Benedict Wong, Alden Ehrenreich, Amy Madigan, and many more. Following the success of his 2022 movie Barbarian, Cregger’s Weapons is one of the most anticipated movies of this year.

What the first reactions say about Zach Cregger’s Weapons

Weapons, directed by Barbarian fame Zach Cregger, has won over the hearts of its critics.

As per Rotten Tomatoes, the story revolves around several kids who vanish mysteriously “on the same night at exactly the same time” from the same class, except for one remaining child. This leads to everyone “questioning who or what is behind their disappearance.” The film was positively received in its first reactions from critics.

Slash Film’s Chris Evangelista wrote, “WEAPONS is an absolute blast: a creepy, funny ensemble piece that takes a MAGNOLIA/PULP FICTION/SHORT CUTS storytelling approach to unleash a memorable suburban nightmare. The grand finale had me cackling with twisted glee.”

Meanwhile, Matthieu Côté labeled the movie “downright terrifying” and stated, “WEAPONS cements Zach Cregger as a strong voice in modern horror and a master of mystery. Extremely well-structured and executed with a talented cast. Buckle the fuck up.”

On the other hand, Griffin Schiller described Weapons as the “best film of the year” and “a horror masterpiece.” He stated, “A chilling masterclass in suspense and POV storytelling that exposes a society with dwindling empathy that tolerates dehumanizing acts. I’m OBSESSED. This is one film I won’t be able to shake!”

Moreover, Germain Lussier conveyed that the movie “is beyond messed up & I loved every second of it. It’s Magnolia the horror movie, as multiple characters circle a big, creepy mystery. Less shocking than Barbarian, but much better.”

Weapons is coming to theaters on August 8, 2025.
