Pedro Pascal on if Reed Richards Could Match Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark

Pedro Pascal, who has joined the MCU as Reed Richards / Mister Fantastic, reflected on how his character would respond to Robert Downey Jr’s Tony Stark / Iron Man. Pascal’s Reed will make his debut in the upcoming The Fantastic Four: First Steps and will also appear in Avengers: Doomsday.

Even Pedro Pascal thinks Tony Stark is more charismatic than Reed Richards

Pedro Pascal spoke about how his character will respond to Tony Stark’s intellect and charisma during a new interview with ComicBook. He said, “Oh gosh, I [Reed] would have been so perplexed by him [Tony]. I feel like I wouldn’t have even have gotten — I wouldn’t even have tried to participate at his skill of conversation anyway.”

The actor further added, “And if he was willing to, you know, talk science, then I’d be in heaven. But if he was like, you know, running a room, I would, I’d just sit back and be an audience member, I think.”

The Emmy-nominated actor indicated that Reed and Tony will find a common ground while speaking about science. In The Avengers, Tony develops a camaraderie with Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner / Hulk based on their shared love for all things related to science and exploring various possibilities. While he is probably right about the dichotomy between Stark and Tony’s charisma, there is another aspect of each other’s personality that the two characters will find relatable.

In Avengers: Endgame (2019), Tony is a father and refuses to join the rest of the collective to undo what Thanos accomplished in Avengers: Infinity War (2018). In The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Reed seemingly becomes the father of Ada Scott’s Franklin Richards.

Instead of Tony, Pascal’s Reed is expected to deal with Downey Jr’s Doctor Doom, who is Reed’s greatest adversary in the comics. Additionally, Kevin Feige has indicated that Tony would be recast in the MCU in the future. Accordingly, an interaction between this new version of Tony and Reed can still happen.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps debuts in US theaters on July 25, 2025. Avengers: Doomsday comes out on December 18, 2026.
