Dune: Part 3’s Jason Momoa Reveals How His Son Was Cast in Movie

Jason Momoa stated that his son, Nakoa-Wolf Momoa, was in for a “rude awakening” while responding to the latter joining the Dune 3 cast. In June 2025, various outlets reported that Nakoa-Wolf and Ida Brooke had been cast as Leto II and Ghanima Atreides, respectively, in Dune: Part Three. The sequel is the 16-year-old’s first job as an actor.

Jason Momoa made it clear in a new interview with Extra that he wasn’t involved in Nakoa-Wolf being cast as Leto II Atreides, the son of Timothée Chalamet’s Paul Atreides and Zendaya’s Chani, in Dune: Part Three.

“A rude awakening is what he’s in for,” Momoa said when asked if Nakoa-Wolf was having the time of his life. “He’s into the workforce for the first time. It’s going to be good. He did it on his own. I don’t want to help him, and he’s done it all on his own, and good for him.”

The Aquaman actor went on to draw a comparison between his early career and that of his son and underscored how amazing it was that Nakoa-Wolf was working with Denis Villeneuve at his age.

“You want your children to be better than you, and I really, actually believe he is,” Momoa added. “I couldn’t do what he’s doing at his age. There’s no way I could sit in a room with Denis Villeneuve and hold my own. I was on Baywatch at 19. He’s 16 and holding s— down with Denis Villeneuve.”

Momoa gave the aforementioned interview at the red carpet event for Chief of War, his upcoming Apple TV+ series that premieres on August 1, 2025. Momoa’s family, including Nakoa-Wolf, was present at the event.

Momoa noted he and his former wife, Lisa Bonet, raised their children to be “confident.” He said, “We raised our children… It’s just, you know, being loved and being confident in themselves… That is what he is. He’s very confident.”

Dune: Part Three is an adaptation of Frank Herbert’s 1969 novel Dune Messiah. It debuts in US theaters on December 18, 2026.
