Fantastic Four’s Galactus Actor on What He Did to Play Galactus in First Steps

Ralph Ineson, who plays Galactus in the upcoming MCU feature The Fantastic Four: First Steps, explained how he prepared for the role of the immensely powerful cosmic being. The movie will mark Galactus’ second live-action cinematic appearance after 2007’s Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, in which the character doesn’t speak and is largely depicted as a cosmic cloud.

How Ralph Ineson changed his approach to acting to play Galactus in Fantastic Four

Ineson disclosed in a new interview with DiscussingFilm that he stood on top of high rises and drove through tunnels in the Alps to get a better understanding of Galactus. The actor said that he had to get his “head around” to play a cosmic being.

He added that he realized that he couldn’t use his usual methods to figure out a character for Galactus’ scale. “You can’t work out if he’s married or not, if he has kids, what does he order when he goes to the pub,” Ineson explained. “These are questions you’d ordinarily ask to try and get yourself into a character.”

According to Ineson, none of the aforementioned approaches apply to a cosmic entity like Galactus. So, he delved into the fact that the character had been around “longer than anybody could understand, time-wise.” To grasp the scale of Galactus, Ineson recalled standing on tall buildings and noting that this was his character’s point of view of the world. He added that it was “helpful.”

The actor also mentioned that he had driven through the tunnels in the Alps and imagined that they were Galactus’ throat. He continued, “How big and powerful that would be! So you have to approach things in a different way.”

The Fantastic Four: First Steps premieres at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles on July 21, 2025. It will debut in US theaters on July 25, 2025.
