Colin Farrell, who recently received a Primetime Emmy nomination for portraying the titular character in The Penguin, revealed in a new interview whether he has read the script for Matt Reeves’ The Batman 2. The Penguin’s Colin Farrell ‘can’t wait’ to read Matt Reeves’ The Batman 2 script
Colin Farrell revealed in a new interview with Deadline that he hadn’t yet read Reeves and Tomlin’s script for the sequel to 2022’s The Batman. He added, “But I’m very close to it. I can’t wait. I’m going to have to block out a few hours when that happens and really put the kettle on and put a nice cup of tea on and pay attention.”
This comes right after Farrell was nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for essaying the role of Oswald “Oz” Cobb / The Penguin in the HBO series The Penguin. This is Farrell’s first Emmy nomination. He previously received an Oscar nod for Best Actor for playing Pádraic Súilleabháin in 2022’s The Banshees of Inisherin.
Farrell debuted as the Penguin in The Batman and received widespread acclaim for his performance. He reprised the role in The Penguin and will reportedly return in The Batman 2. Farrell called Reeves “an extraordinary writer and a highly intelligent artist” during the aforementioned interview. He continued, “I will imagine that the script will be riveting and incredibly deep and he’s taken his time with it and that’s because he’s a perfectionist.”
Earlier this month, DCU co-head James Gunn said that he had read The Batman 2 script and that it was “great.” The Batman, its sequel, and The Penguin are part of what Reeves and his collaborators refer to as the Batman Epic Crime Saga.
The Batman 2 debuts in US theaters on October 1, 2027.
