Street Fighter Movie Adds Indian Action Star as Dhalsim

The Street Fighter movie‘s cast continues to grow, with Deadline reporting that the upcoming live-action movie has officially found its Dhalsim.

Who is playing Dhalsim in the live-action Street Fighter movie?

According to Deadline’s report, Indian action star Vidyut Jammwal has joined onto the cast of the movie as Dhalsim. Besides the big role, Jammwal will also be making his Hollywood debut with Street Fighter, although he’s no unknown. In India, Jammwal is best known for starring in the hugely successful Commando film series.

In the world of Street Fighter, Dhalsim is a mystical yogi that is a pacifist that goes against his beliefs to enter the World Warrior tournament to raise money for his poor village. His character is often shown as being one of the most moral in the Street Fighter continuity. In 1994’s live-action movie, he was portrayed by British actor Roshan Seth.

Goto is yet another wrestler set to appear in the movie. Previously, it was reported that WWE star Cody Rhodes will play Guile in the movie, and Akuma is also rumored to be played by none other than Joe Anoa’i, aka Roman Reigns.

The cast of the upcoming Street Fighter movie features a star-studded group, including Andrew Koji as Ryu, Callina Liang as Chun-Li, Noah Centineo as Ken, Jason Momoa as Blanka, Roman Reigns as Akuma, Orville Peck as Vega, Andrew Schulz as Dan Hibiki, and Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson as Balrog. Other reported castings include New Japan Pro-Wrestling star Hirooki Goto as E. Honda, and WWE star Cody Rhodes as Guile.

Production on the film is expected to begin in Australia this coming August. Plot details remain under wraps at this time. Legendary Entertainment is co-developing and co-producing the project alongside Capcom.

A release date for the Street Fighter movie has not yet been set.
