Antony Starr Reacts to Fan Dressed as Homelander in Superman Screening
A fan appeared at the screening for DCU’s Superman dressed as Homelander from The Boys, earning a response from Antony Starr himself. The Boys subverts the superhero genre by depicting superpowered individuals as morally corrupt, self-serving, and sometimes sociopathic. John / Homelander has often been described as a twisted reinterpretation of Superman.

In a viral video circulating online, a fan can be seen attending a screening of James Gunn’s Superman in the iconic blue suit and red and white striped cape. The fan even had a milk bottle with them, alluding to Homelander’s unusual interest in the liquid.
This prompted Starr to take to social media and praise the fan. The actor shared the video on Instagram Stories with a note that reads, “This really needs to be an example to all. More people should turn up in rival costuming. It’s a stud move.”
The fan did not seem to have shared the video, but evidently it has reached a wide audience. This includes the actor portraying the character they are cosplaying in the video.
The Boys creator Eric Kripke developed the series as an adaptation of the namesake comic book series by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson. In the source material, Homelander is equally narcissistic and devoid of empathy.
Interestingly, Ennis, during his tenure at DC Comics, wrote a respectful version of Superman in his run on Hitman comics. Notably, Hitman / Tommy Monagha is a character that Ennis created alongside artist John McCrea.
The Boys debuted on Prime Video on July 26, 2019. Seasons 2, 3, and 4 came out on September 4, 2020; June 3, 2022; and June 13, 2024. The fifth and final season of the show will premiere sometime in 2026.
As for Superman, it stars David Corenswet as the iconic superhero. The movie premieres today, July 11, in US theaters.
