Quicksilver Actor’s Tron: Ares Villain Gets First Look in New Photos

New Tron: Ares photos featuring a key antagonistic character, portrayed by a Marvel actor, have been released. Tron: Ares is the upcoming third entry in the Tron film series. It was preceded by 1982’s Tron and 2010’s Tron: Legacy. There was also an animated TV spin-off titled Tron: Uprising, which aired for 19 episodes on Disney XD between 2012 and 2013.

Evan Peters’ Julian Dillinger joins Gillian Anderson’s character in latest Tron: Ares photos

Evan Peters’ Julian Dillinger looks suave and mysterious in the newly released photos from Tron: Ares. In one of them, Julian appears alongside a character portrayed by Gillian Anderson. The Sex Education actor is playing Julian’s mother, whose name is reportedly Elisabeth, in the movie.

In an interview published in the new issue of Empire magazine, Anderson reflected on her character’s relationship with Julian. She observed, “Having a son that behaves in the way that Julian does, and trying to deal with his actions, both emotionally and logistically — it adds a level of stress and strain to their relationship” (via ComicBook).

When the first footage from Tron: Ares was released at D23 Expo, Peters spoke about the familial legacy of his character. “Dillinger doesn’t always mean great things for those on the grid,” he said (via Variety). This is likely a reference to the fact that David Warner’s Ed Dillinger is the primary antagonist in the first movie.

The official logline for Tron: Ares reads, “A highly sophisticated Program called Ares is sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission, marking humankind’s first encounter with A.I. beings.”

Joachim Rønning, known for Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, has directed the feature. Jesse Wigutow wrote the script from a story he developed with David Digilio, based on the characters created by Steven Lisberger and Bonnie MacBird.

The cast also includes Jared Leto as Ares, Greta Lee as Eve Kim, Jodie Turner-Smith as Athena, and Jeff Bridges as Kevin Flynn.

Tron: Ares debuts in US theaters on October 10, 2025.
