Ne Zha 2’s English Dub With Marvel Actor Gets US Release Date

A new update confirms that a Marvel actor will lead the English dub for Ne Zha 2 as the film returns to theaters in a major rerelease. A24 has partnered with CMC Pictures to bring the record-breaking Chinese animated sequel to audiences in North America, Australia, and New Zealand. The English-language version advances the film’s global expansion following its historic box office success.

Ne Zha 2 English dub gets august release date, Michelle Yeoh to lead

“I’m honored to be part of Ne Zha 2, a landmark in Chinese animation and a powerful reminder of how universal our stories can be,” Michelle Yeoh said in a statement. “Sharing this with audiences in English is such a joy, and I can’t wait for everyone to experience the wonder, heart, spectacular artistry, and magic of this film on the big screen” (via The Hollywood Reporter).

Ne Zha 2, directed by Yang Yu (Jiaozi), premiered in China on January 29, 2025, during Lunar New Year. The movie has grossed over $2.2 billion worldwide. Of that, $2 billion came from China alone.

It now ranks as the highest-grossing animated film of all time. It is also the top-grossing non-English-language film and the fifth highest-grossing film overall. The movie surpassed Star Wars: The Force Awakens in a single territory within just 11 days.

The film follows Ne Zha and Ao Bing, who now share one body after a divine lightning strike. The plot centers on Taiyi Zhenren’s plan to rebuild their bodies using the seven-colored lotus. The sequel builds on the success of 2019’s Ne Zha, which reimagined the mythological hero in a modern animated style.

CMC first announced the English-language rerelease at the Beijing International Film Festival in April 2025. The film earned $20.8 million during its original North American release. The studio has not yet revealed Michelle Yeoh’s exact role in the English dub.
