What is shown in the Red Sonja movie trailer?
The action-packed trailer features Red Sonja showcasing her elite combat skills with her sword, fists, and a bow and arrow. Enslaved, Red Sonja must escape captivity and lead a rebellion to free her people from tyranny.
“Someone has to make a stand. Nothing but death awaits us,” Red Sonja says in the trailer. “I will do what damage I can.”
Besides Lutz, Red Sonja stars Robert Sheehan, Wallis Day, Martyn Ford, Michael Bisping, Phillip Winchester, and Trevor Eve.
Red Sonja is directed by M. J. Bassett, a filmmaker best known for helming Deathwatch and Silent Hill: Revelation. Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft showrunner Tasha Huo penned the screenplay for Red Sonja.
Red Sonja was in development hell for nearly two decades. Bryan Singer and Joey Soloway were both attached to the project within the last 10 years.
Red Sonja is based on the character created by Roy Thomas and artist Barry Windsor-Smith for Marvel Comics. The character was often paired with Conan the Barbarian in the comics.
In 1985, Brigitte Nielsen headlined Red Sonja in the titular role. Nielsen starred alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger, who played Lord Kalidor. The film flopped critically and financially, destroying any chance of an immediate sequel.
Red Sonja hits theaters on August 15, 2025. The fantasy movie then heads to digital on August 29, 2025.
