‘Fire James Gunn’ Trend Goes Viral Ahead of Superman’s Release
Fans of the DCEU have been continuing their campaign to restore the SnyderVerse as “Fire James Gunn” trends on social media. The trend started going viral on the internet after the early reviews of Gunn’s new Superman movie were revealed. In 2022, Gunn, along with Peter Safran, was hired as a co-CEO of DC Studios to create the new DCU.
DCEU and DCU fans go to war with new ‘Fire James Gunn’ trend
Ahead of the release of Superman, “Fire James Gunn” has started trending on X (formerly Twitter), with many DCEU fans demanding the restoration of the SnyderVerse. SnyderVerse refers to the films that Zack Snyder made for the DCEU, which ended with the film Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom in 2023.
Since Gunn joined DC and announced Superman, SnyderVerse fans have rallied to champion Snyder’s vision and demand the return of Henry Cavill as the Man of Steel. David Corenswet joined James Gunn’s DCU as Superman in June 2023, and the new film recently received the best Rotten Tomatoes score of all the live-action Superman movies released since 1980. However, some SnyderVerse fans have started using the “Fire James Gunn” hashtag to demand the return of Snyder.
A user on X posted, “Rotten Tomatoes (you know, the paid review clowns) are rating it high…or they were. The score keeps going down the more time passes and the more reviews come in. #ManOfSteel #HenryCavillSuperman #FireJamesGunn Superman ain’t GOTG.”
Another post lauded Snyder and used the “Restore the Snyderverse” hashtag, saying “Zack Snyder Will Go Down In History As The Best Movie Director Of All Time. FireJamesGunn #RestoreTheSnyderVerse #SellSnyderVerseToNetflix #SellPowerRangersToZackSnyder.”
Another user stated, “The signs are all there, #FireJamesGunn is just the beginning of the true reaction to his abomination of a film.”
On the other hand, there were many other posts supporting gunn and the new Superman film.
User Reza shared a collage of the Rotten Tomatoes scores of superhero projects that Gunn has been a part of and wrote, “Love or hate him, James Gunn is the BEST comic book filmmaker.”
Another user predicted that Superman will surpass Man of Steel’s box office collection and wrote, “FireJamesGunn is trending with 1k tweets because #Superman is gonna collect Man of steel lifetime within few days of its release. @JamesGunn.”
A third user commented on the trend by sharing a meme mocking SnyderVerse fans.
