Watch Eddington’s Fictional Campaign Ad for Pedro Pascal’s Ted Ahead of US Release

A new fictional campaign ad featuring Pedro Pascal’s Ted Garcia has been released ahead of Eddington‘s debut in US theaters. Ari Aster, known for Hereditary and Midsommar, wrote, directed, and co-produced the movie. Eddington had its world premiere at the 78th annual Cannes Film Festival on May 16, 2025.

Pedro Pascal’s Ted Garcia appears in a fictional campaign ad from Eddington

Pascal’s Ted Garcia, the Mayor of Eddington, seems to be in the middle of a re-election campaign in the fictional ad that came out recently. In the video, Garcia recounts his wife’s alleged abandonment and how the community in Eddington helped him and his son afterward.

He mentions the things he claims to have accomplished in his first term, including aiding the governor “in her mission to start building a 100% clean energy economy” and creating “new, reliable, secure jobs.”

Eddington is predominantly set in the eponymous fictional town in New Mexico during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. The video alludes to this when Garcia mentions what he plans to do if he is re-elected as mayor. “And as we walk toward the next term, I’m ready to continue leading our town and fighting the pandemic and the racial and economic inequities that COVID-19 only made worse,” he says.

The star-studded cast of Eddington also includes Joaquin Phoenix as Joe Cross, Emma Stone as Louise Cross, Luke Grimes as Guy, Austin Butler as Vernon Jefferson Peak, and Deirdre O’Connell as Dawn. The official logline reads, “In May of 2020, a standoff between a small-town sheriff (Phoenix) and mayor (Pascal) sparks a powder keg as neighbor is pitted against neighbor in Eddington, New Mexico.”

Aster wrote the script as a contemporary Western, and at one point, it was reportedly supposed to be his first directorial venture. This movie marks Aster’s second collaboration with Phoenix after 2023’s Beau Is Afraid.

Eddington debuts in US theaters on July 18, 2025.
