Insidious 6 Update Reveals More Plot Details as Horror Sequel Moves Forward

Insidious 6 has received an exciting production update.

The first Insidious movie was released in 2010. Directed by James Wan and written by Leigh Whannell, the supernatural horror flick stars Patrick Wilson as Josh Lambert, Rose Byrne as Renai Lambert, Ty Simpkins as Dalton Lambert, Lin Shaye as Elise Rainier, and Barbara Hershey as Lorraine Lambert.

Given that Insidious made around $100 million at the global box office, it spawned a franchise that includes 2013’s Insidious: Chapter 2, 2015’s Insidious: Chapter 3, 2018’s Insidious: The Last Key, and, most recently, Insidious: The Red Door.

It was announced in May 2024 that Sony Pictures was developing a sixth film in the Insidious franchise that was originally intended to be released on August 29, 2025; however, it was removed from the studio’s calendar in December 2024 before being given a new release date the following month.

What is the latest Insidious 6 update?

According to Nexus Point News, production on Insidious 6 will begin on September 15, 2025, in Melbourne, Australia.

Three supporting roles are currently being cast for Insidious 6, including Lester (The character is portrayed as he/him, 60s+, BIPOC. Small and hunched, he is a strange and frightening man who torments his neighbor… Supporting. Seeking unique, frightening appearances), Patsy (The character is portrayed as she/her, 60s+, BIPOC. Short and thin, she is a garish and frightening woman who torments her neighbor… Supporting. Seeking unique, frightening appearances), and Edna (The character is portrayed as she/her, 60s+, BIPOC. Tall and thin, she is an eerie and frightening woman who torments her neighbor…Supporting. Seeking unique, frightening appearances).

It has not yet been announced who is directing Insidious 6, and it’s unclear if any of the stars of past movies will return for this one. The character descriptions, however, suggest this new movie could take place in a crowded neighborhood or apartment building where several frightening people live nearby.

Insidious 6 will be released on August 21, 2026.
