Julian McMahon Passes Away, Nip/Tuck Star Was 56

Actor Julian McMahon, best known for his roles in Nip/Tuck, Charmed, and playing Doctor Doom in the 2000s Fantastic Four films, died this past week at the age of 56.

McMahon’s wife, Kelly McMahon, shared a statement to Deadline on Friday, revealing that Julian passed away on July 2, after a private battle with cancer. In her statement, Kelly said her husband wished to bring joy to as many people as possible, and that his family and friends are grateful for his memories.

“With an open heart, I wish to share with the world that my beloved husband, Julian McMahon, died peacefully this week after a valiant effort to overcome cancer,” Kelly McMahon said in her statement. “Julian loved life. He loved his family. He loved his friends. He loved his work, and he loved his fans. His deepest wish was to bring joy into as many lives as possible. We ask for support during this time to allow our family to grieve in privacy. And we wish for all of those to whom Julian brought joy, to continue to find joy in life. We are grateful for the memories.”

Julian was born in Sydney, Australia, in 1968, and began his career as a model before transitioning to acting in 1989. McMahon starred in the Australian daytime soap opera The Power, The Passion, and would go on to star in the long-running soap opera Home and Away in 1990-91. He made his film debut in the 1992 comedy film Wet and Wild Summer! before making his way to America to star in several projects. His first big role in the states was on the crime drama Profiler, before he would go on to star in Charmed, playing Cole Turner across the show’s third, fourth, and fifth seasons.

McMahon’s most memorable role came in 2003, when he starred in Ryan Murphy’s hit FX medical drama Nip/Tuck for all six of its seasons. McMahon also starred as Doctor Doom in the Fox Fantastic Four films, appearing in 2005’s Fantastic Four and 2007’s Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.
