The Odyssey Teaser Trailer’s American Accents Divide Fans
Some Christopher Nolan fans are complaining about the American accents in the teaser trailer for The Odyssey.
The Odyssey, which is still in production, is a new epic fantasy film written, directed, and co-produced by Nolan. Starring Tom Holland, Matt Damon, Jon Bernthal, and many others, the film currently has a July 2026 release date.
The first teaser trailer for The Odyssey is now showing in front of Jurassic World Rebirth, though low-quality versions of the footage leaked online earlier this week. The teaser shows a handful of shots of the ocean and a beach, while it also sees Holland and Bernthal have a brief conversation about Damon’s character’s whereabouts.
What are people saying about the accents in The Odyssey teaser trailer?
Given that The Odyssey is based on the ancient Greek epic poem that is attributed to Homer, some people are upset over the American accents heard in The Odyssey teaser trailer.
Others, however, don’t feel like it’s that big of a deal.
It’s important to note that The Odyssey teaser trailer is only about a minute long, meaning it only gives audiences a small taste of what to expect from the movie. There are a number of actors starring in the film who haven’t yet appeared in any footage, meaning not everyone may be speaking in an American accent.
The cast of The Odyssey further includes Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Benny Safdie, John Leguizamo, Elliot Page, Himesh Patel, Bill Irwin, Mia Goth, Corey Hawkins, Cosmo Jarvis, Samantha Morton, Jesse Garcia, Will Yun Lee, Rafi Gavron, Shiloh Fernandez, Nick E. Tarabay, Jimmy Gonzales, Maurice Compte, Michael Valais, Iddo Goldberg, Josh Stewart, and Ryan Hurst.
With the movie being filmed entirely with IMAX cameras, The Odyssey hits United States theaters and IMAX on July 17, 2026, from Universal Pictures.
