Jurassic World Rebirth’s Box Office Prediction Is Weaker Than Previous Trilogy
With Jurassic World Rebirth now in theaters, its early box office performance is being closely compared to the previous trilogy. Despite a solid holiday debut, projections indicate it will open below the last three Jurassic World films.
Jurassic World Rebirth’s Wednesday box office numbers are in
Universal’s Jurassic World Rebirth reportedly opened to an estimated $28 million on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, not including Tuesday previews.
This ranks as the fourth-highest opening day in the Jurassic franchise and marks only the second time a series entry opened on a Wednesday, following 2001’s Jurassic Park III which earned $19 million. The top three opening days in the franchise remain Jurassic World (2015) with $81.9 million, Dominion (2022) with $59.5 million, and Fallen Kingdom (2018) with $58.5 million (via Deadline).
The film is tracking a $77.5 million 3-day total and a $127.5 million 5-day holiday weekend gross. However, forecasts remain uncertain due to July 4 falling on a Friday. When Independence Day previously landed on a Friday in 2014, Transformers: Age of Extinction saw a 28% drop in its Friday earnings compared to the previous day.
Universal has a history of strong July 4th openings post-Covid, including F9 ($70 million 3-day in 2021), Minions: The Rise of Gru ($123 million 4-day in 2022), and Despicable Me 4 ($122.6 million 5-day in 2023).
Jurassic World Rebirth’s box office to open lower than Dominion
Jurassic World Rebirth, directed by Gareth Edwards and released by Universal and Amblin, is screening in 4,308 theaters, including premium large format screens. It holds a 53% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, an increase from Dominion‘s 29%.
Starring Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, Jonathan Bailey, and Rupert Friend, the film introduces a new cast while continuing the franchise’s legacy. Rebirth’s Wednesday opening, while solid, falls well short of the 2015 film’s record-setting debut.
Box office history of previous trilogy:
- Jurassic World (2015): $208.8M opening, $1.67B worldwide
- Fallen Kingdom (2018): $148M opening, $1.31B worldwide
- Dominion (2022): $145.1M opening, $1B worldwide
With a projected $127.5M 5-day total, Rebirth is pacing below all earlier trilogy installments.
Jurassic World Rebirth hit theaters on Wednesday, July 2, 2025.
