Crimson Tide 2 Is in the Works, Denzel Washington’s Involvement Revealed
Jerry Bruckheimer has confirmed that Crimson Tide 2 is in the works.
Crimson Tide is a 1995 submarine thriller movie directed by Tony Scott. Produced by Bruckheimer, it stars Denzel Washington as Lieutenant Commander Ronald “Ron” Hunter and Gene Hackman as Captain Franklin “Frank” Ramsey. Quentin Tarantino did uncredited additional writing on the film, while the screenplay is attributed to Michael Schiffer.
Speaking on The Rich Eisen Show, per Variety, Bruckheimer confirmed that Crimson Tide 2 is currently being developed.
“We have a really good director and writer talking to the navy right now about what’s going on under the water,” he said.
Is Denzel Washington involved with Crimson Tide 2?
At this time, Washington is not attached to reprise his role in Crimson Tide 2; however, Bruckheimer said that they are hopeful they’ll get him to return.
“If we give him a good script, I think he’d do it,” he commented.
Variety’s article further notes that, according to an unnamed source, Washington’s involvement is entirely “script-dependent” and “there’s no finished screenplay” as of yet.
Bruckheimer further teased that, while he can’t talk about the story for Crimson Tide 2, it’s “a real good one.”
The synopsis for the 1995 movie reads, “After the Cold War, a breakaway Russian republic with nuclear warheads becomes a possible worldwide threat. U.S. submarine Capt. Frank Ramsey (Hackman) signs on a relatively green but highly recommended Lt. Cmdr. Ron Hunter (Washington) to the USS Alabama, which may be the only ship able to stop a possible Armageddon. When Ramsay insists that the Alabama must act aggressively, Hunter, fearing they will start rather than stop a disaster, leads a potential mutiny to stop him.”
Crimson Tide is currently available to watch on streaming platforms such as Fubo, MGM+, TNT, TBS, and more. There is no release date information for Crimson Tide 2 at this time.
