Nicholas Hoult on if His X-Men Character Is Returning in Avengers: Doomsday

Nicholas Hoult is opening up about whether his version of X-Men’s Beast will appear in Avengers: Doomsday.

Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday is currently in production. The ensemble superhero epic is being directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, also known as the Russo Brothers.

Hoult, meanwhile, will soon be seen playing Lex Luthor in James Gunn’s Superman, which will be the first movie that is part of Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU. Prior to that, Hoult played Henry “Hank” McCoy/Beast in a number of X-Men movies, including 2011’s X-Men: First Class, 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past, 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse, and 2019’s Dark Phoenix.

What did Nicholas Hoult say about his X-Men character and Avengers: Doomsday?

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Hoult confirmed that he had not had any talks with Marvel about reprising his role as Beast, meaning MCU fans shouldn’t expect him to show up in Avengers: Doomsday.

That being said, it has been confirmed that Kelsey Grammer will be reprising his Beast role in Doomsday. Grammar first played the character in 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand and then appeared during the post-credit scene of 2023’s The Marvels.

Hoult said about Grammar’s performance, “Kelsey was a great Beast. He was the Beast I saw when I was a kid, along with the other actors that they’re bringing back, Patrick [Stewart] and Ian [McKellen] and James [Marsden] and all them…Those were the characters that I got to watch in X-Men movies. I’m excited to see what they do with it. It’ll be fun to see how they incorporate those characters into that world.”

Marsden, Stewart, and McKellen are all reprising their respective X-Men roles as Cyclops, Charles Xavier, and Magneto in Avengers: Doomsday, which hits United States theaters on December 18, 2026. It will be followed by Avengers: Secret Wars on December 17, 2027.
