Superman’s Nathan Fillion and other Justice Gang actors reveal why they joined the team
While speaking with Collider‘s Perri Nemiroff, Fillion, Gathegi, Merced, and Carrigan provided distinct reasons as to why the metahumans they are portraying in Superman chose to sign up for the Justice Gang. In a hilarious turn of events, Nathan Fillion remarked that his character, Guy Gardner, only did so for the money.
Explaining Green Lantern’s choice to become a part of the Justice Gang in Superman, the Firefly star stated, “Corporate sponsorship. I think Guy Gardner has financial aspirations. He wants to open his own bar.”
On the other hand, the need for “an activity” is what drove Mister Terrific to enroll himself in the Justice Gang, which will make its DCU debut in the upcoming movie. “He’s bored. It’s something for me to do while I do other things,” Edi Gathegi added.
As for Hawkgirl, Isabela Merced says that her winged superhero probably “needed a legal reason to let out her rage. A legal way to kick some ass.” Meanwhile, Anthony Carrigan still seems to be “waiting for the contract to show up” for Metamorpho to ally with the Justice Gang members in Superman.
During the conversation, Merced briefly touched upon the connection that the Justice Gang shares in the much-awaited Superman movie, stating, “There’s deep respect in the group, and that’s why they’re so funny together.”
Helmed by James Gunn and featuring David Corenswet as the titular superhero, Superman flies into theaters on July 11, 2025.
