The Old Guard 3 Gets New Update From Part 2 Director

The Old Guard 2 director Victoria Mahoney recently addressed questions about her possible involvement in The Old Guard 3. In a new interview, the filmmaker reflected on the sequel’s production, her experience with the franchise, and what the future might hold for the next chapter. Mahoney also spoke about her current commitments and how they could impact her role moving forward.

Victoria Mahoney confirmed she will not return to direct The Old Guard 3 if the sequel moves forward.

In an exclusive interview with The Direct, Mahoney said, “I’m not in the room. I’m not in that discussion of whether there will be another or not.” She explained that the lengthy production timeline for The Old Guard 2 prevented her from committing to other opportunities, stating, “The duration of this film took me from other projects I have, so I am legally obliged to some other projects. So, I will be for the next six, seven years, on some other jobs.”

The Old Guard 2 director added, “Someone else will take that mantle in a wonderful, exciting way, and I don’t know what they’re gonna do, but I know it’ll be great, and it’ll be fun, and it will be with great regard and care for the audience, and I will be eagerly awaiting it.”

The Old Guard 2 premiered on Netflix on Wednesday, July 2, 2025. Mahoney took over directorial duties from Gina Prince-Bythewood, who helmed the original 2020 film. The sequel stars Charlize Theron, Uma Thurman, Henry Golding, Kiki Layne, Marwan Kenzari, and Chiwetel Ejiofor. It introduces a new villain named Discord, portrayed by Uma Thurman.

The film also explores further lore involving immortals like Tuah, played by Henry Golding. In a separate interview with The Direct, Golding said, “He’s really taken it upon himself as being one of the older immortals of existence to try to answer those questions” about the origin and purpose of the immortals. Tuah emerges at a critical time and struggles with whether he’ll be accepted by the team.

The Old Guard 3 has not been officially confirmed by Netflix.
