
The Girl Who Leapt Through Time 4K & Blu-ray Release Date Set for Anime Movie
GKIDS has announced The Girl Who Leapt Through Time 4K and Blu-ray release date for the 2006 time travel adventure anime movie, which hails from acclaimed filmmaker Mamoru Hosoda. It currently holds a Popcornmeter score of 90% on Rotten Tomatoes.
“Makoto is a typical teenage girl who spends most of her days slacking off with friends. One day while rushing to meet her aunt, she nearly gets hit by a train, but at the last second, finds herself jumping backwards through time to avoid the accident,” reads the official synopsis. “She immediately makes use of her newfound ability to re-do every minor inconvenience – from poor exam results to awkward confessions of love. However, when faced with the consequences of tampering with time, Makoto must do everything she can to avoid a dire future that can’t be reversed.”
When is The Girl Who Leapt Through Time 4K and Blu-ray release date?
For the first time, Hosoda’s The Girl Who Leapt Through Time will be available for purchase on Blu-ray starting on September 9, 2025. At the same time, the anime movie will also be released in 4K UHD, in a Limited Edition Steelbook, which will be available exclusively on Amazon.

The 2006 anime movie was directed by Hosoda from a screenplay written by Satoko Okudera. It was described as a loose sequel to Yasutaka Tsutsui’s 1967 novel of the same name. Hosoda is best known for his acclaimed work on the Oscar-nominated animated feature Mirai. The voice cast included Riisa Naka, Takuya Ishida, Mitsutaka Itakura, Ayama Kakiuchi, Mitsuki Tanimura, Yuki Sekido, Keiko Yamamoto, Yōji Matsuda, and Sachie Hara. It was a production by Madhouse.
