James Bond: Denis Villeneuve Won’t Have Final Cut for 007 Movie, More Details

New details about Denis Villeneuve’s James Bond deal have come to light.

Earlier this week, it was announced that Villeneuve will direct the next James Bond movie for Amazon MGM Studios. No plot details are yet known about the project, and the casting has not yet been announced.

What is the latest James Bond update?

According to a recent report from Puck, Villeneuve won’t get final cut on the new James Bond movie.

Puck also reports that, at this time, Villeneuve isn’t attached to produce any other Bond television or movie products that arrive after his movie, though this could easily change if his movie is a hit.

“Studios have really cut off the trough for directors/producers who make one movie based on big I.P. and then attach themselves to everything after that,” the article notes. “These ground rules were laid out in advance of the final director meetings.”

Other directors who were being eyed to helm the next James Bond movie besides Villeneuve include Edward Berger, Paul King, Jonathan Nolan, and Edgar Wright.

Villeneuve recently said in a statement, “Some of my earliest movie-going memories are connected to 007. I grew up watching James Bond films with my father, ever since Dr. No with Sean Connery. I’m a die-hard Bond fan. To me, he’s sacred territory,” Villeneuve said. “I intend to honor the tradition and open the path for many new missions to come. This is a massive responsibility, but also, incredibly exciting for me and a huge honor. Amy, David, and I are absolutely thrilled to bring him back to the screen. Thank you to Amazon MGM Studios for their trust.”

Villeneuve’s James Bond movie does not yet have a release date. According to Puck, Amazon MGM Studios’ next move on the project will be to hire a writer, while casting will likely follow after that.
