Superman Cast Adds Marvel & Westworld Actors as Kal-El’s Parents

A new update confirms the casting of Superman’s Kryptonian parents in James Gunn’s upcoming DCU reboot. A major Hollywood actor will portray Jor-El, while a Westworld alum takes on the role of Lara Lor-Van. The news follows a special fan screening of the film’s opening sequence, where both characters appear in a key scene set inside the Fortress of Solitude.

Westworld’s Angela Sarafyan joins Bradley Cooper to play Superman’s parents

Bradley Cooper will portray Jor-El in James Gunn’s upcoming Superman film, as reported by Omelete. Angela Sarafyan, known for her role in Westworld, has been cast as Lara Lor-Van, Superman’s biological mother.

Both characters appear in the film’s opening sequence, as shown in a 30-minute preview screened at global fan events. In this scene, Superman arrives injured at the Fortress of Solitude. Robotic assistants then play a recorded holographic message from Jor-El and Lara, spoken in Kryptonian.

James Gunn, who directed Superman and previously worked with Cooper on Guardians of the Galaxy, confirmed the actor’s involvement during the film’s press tour. According to Gunn, “It’s Bradley, it’s also Pom [Klementieff], and Michael Rooker is another one of the robots.” The three actors, all from Gunn’s Marvel projects, appear in the Fortress of Solitude sequence.

The film stars David Corenswet as Superman/Clark Kent and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. Nicholas Hoult plays Lex Luthor, while Wendell Pierce takes on the role of Daily Planet editor-in-chief Perry White. Skyler Gisondo plays Jimmy Olsen.

Additional DC heroes introduced in the film include Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern Guy Gardner, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho. María Gabriela de Faría portrays Angela Spica/The Engineer, a character tied to The Authority.

The film also features Sean Gunn as Maxwell Lord, Alan Tudyk as Robot #4, and Milly Alcock making her debut as Supergirl. Pruitt Taylor Vince and Neva Howell appear as Jonathan and Martha Kent.

Superman releases in theaters on July 11, 2025.
