M3GAN 2.0 Reviews Net Worse Rotten Tomatoes Score Than Original

M3GAN 2.0 reviews are beginning to pour in, and the sequel is currently scoring a lower overall reaction than the original film did.

What are the M3GAN 2.0 reviews saying?

On Rotten Tomatoes, M3GAN 2.0 currently holds a 62% rating. The score is a significant drop-off from the original film, which holds a 93% as of this writing. According to some, the sequel film deviates a bit too much from the original’s formula, resulting in a mixed reaction.

The Associated Press’ Mark Kennedy said that the film, though, inevitable, “didn’t have to be inevitably too much.” Rolling Stone’s David Fear echoed that sentiment, calling the film “overbaked, underwhelming,” and “narratively restless.” IndieWire’s Alison Foreman also said the character M3GAN is “easily the most likable character in a lineup of algorithmically hateable humans.”

Reactions for the movie weren’t all bad, though. Daily Telegraph’s Robbie Collin said the film leans into its silliness with “infectious glee.” Newsday’s Rafer Guzman also said the movie’s target audience is “anyone who’s up for a few laughs,” and that the movie carries with it its own sense of self-aware humor.

M3GAN 2.0 will be released in United States theaters on June 27, 2025, from Universal Pictures. A spin-off movie titled SOULM8TE is also in the works and is dated for January 2, 2026.

The movie is directed by Gerard Johnston, who also helmed the first movie. The cast further includes Jen Van Epps, Aristotle Athari, Timm Sharp, and Jemaine Clement. James Wan, Jason Blum, and Williams serve as producers, while Johnstone, Adam Hendricks, Greg Gilreath, Michael Clear, Judson Scott, and Mark D. Katchur serve as executive producers.

The cast of the movie includes Allison Williams as Gemma, Violet McGraw as Cady, Brian Jordan Alvarez as Cole, Amie Donald as M3GAN, Jenna Davis as the voice of M3GAN, and Ivanna Sakhno as Amelia.

M3GAN was released in United States theaters in January 2022. The Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Productions movie quickly became a hit, making $181 million at the global box office off an estimated $12 million budget.
