Joel Edgerton Netflix Movie Train Dreams Sets Release Date, Has Oscar Hopes

Netflix has finally announced the Train Dreams release date for its upcoming drama starring Golden Globe nominee Joel Edgerton and Academy Award nominee Felicity Jones. This comes after five months since the movie had its world premiere at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival.

“The film is the moving portrait of Robert Grainier, a logger and railroad worker who leads a life of unexpected depth and beauty in the rapidly-changing America of the early 20th Century,” reads the official synopsis.

When is the Train Dreams release date?

Train Dreams is scheduled to start streaming on November 21, 2025 on Netflix. Prior to this, the movie will first arrive in select theaters sometime in November, just in time for the Oscar season. It will be debuting in the same month as high-profile movies like Nuremberg, The Running Man, Predator: Badlands, Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, Jay Kelly, Wicked: For Good, and Zootopia 2.

The movie is directed by Clint Bentley, who co-wrote the screenplay with Greg Kwedar, based on Denis Johnson’s 2011 novella of the same name. Joining Edgerton and Jones are Nathaniel Arcand, Clifton Collins Jr., John Diehl, Paul Schneider, with Kerry Condon and William H. Macy, with Will Patton set as the narrator. It is executive produced by Edgerton, Scott Hinckley, Kwedar, and John Friedberg, with Marissa McMahon, Teddy Schwarzman, William Janowitz, Ashley Schlaifer, and Michael Heimler producing.

“It’s a really special story and it feels very unique in that it is just about this one person’s life,” Bentley said in a statement via Tudum. “This very simple life. Robert Grainier doesn’t do anything that really alters the course of history — he doesn’t fight in some great battle or create some invention that changes people’s lives, and yet he lives a very deep and rich life.”
