Sense and Sensibility Movie: Twisters Star to Lead New Jane Austen Adaptation

Focus Features and Working Title Films have teamed up for a brand new film adaptation of Sense and Sensibility, based on Jane Austen‘s 1811 novel of the same name.

Prior to this, the novel was famously adapted in 1995 by acclaimed filmmaker Ang Lee, starring award-winning actors Emma Thompson, Alan Rickman, Kate Winslet, and Hugh Grant. It currently holds a near-perfect Tomatometer rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with 97%.

Who is leading the new Sense and Sensibility movie?

Focus Features and Working Title Films have also announced that Golden Globe nominee Daisy Edgar-Jones has officially signed on for the leading role in the new Sense and Sensibility movie. Edgar-Jones was most recently seen in the disaster movie Twisters with Glen Powell and the period drama On Swift Horses with Jacob Elordi. The English actress first gained recognition for her breakout performance as Marianne in Hulu’s Normal People series.

Described as a fresh take on the Jane Austen classic, the upcoming adaptation will be directed by Georgia Oakley (Blue Jean) from a screenplay written by bestselling author Diana Reid. The story follows the lives of the Dashwood sisters and their mother, who are forced to move out of their family estate following the death of their father. The project is produced by Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner of Working Title Films, alongside India Flint of November Pictures and Jo Wallett.

Besides the Sense and Sensibility movie, their are more Jane Austen adaptations on the way, including Netflix’s upcoming series and modern remake of Austen’s popular Pride and Prejudice novel. Prior to the upcoming projects, Austen’s novel was famously adapted in 1995 with Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen leading the film’s cast as Elizabeth Bennett and Mr. Darcy, respectively.
