Superman Theory Draws Shocking Parallels to Invincible’s Story

A new Superman theory suggests that Kal-El might have been sent to conquer Earth in James Gunn’s upcoming movie, similar to Omni-Man in Invincible. Superman, which will feature David Corenswet in the titular role, is coming to theaters in July 2025. Apart from him, Rachel Brosnahan appears as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, as well as Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner.

Superman theory suggests why Kal-El was really sent to Earth

According to a X (formerly Twitter) user, Kal-El’s backstory in the 2025 movie might be different.

In a recent clip, @bluerayangel stated that Superman’s backstory might bear similarities with Omni-Man’s in Invincible. In the Amazon Prime Video series, Omni-Man was also sent to Earth to weaken the defenses of Earth by the Viltrumites.

The user noted in the clip, “Here’s the theory you probably haven’t heard yet. James Gunn’s Superman seems to be struggling with his identity, his Kryptonian heritage, and his human upbringing with the Kents.”

The X user continued, “In the trailer, we hear him talk about how he feels like, maybe he’s not who he thought he was, and his father, Pa Kent, tells him, ‘Your choices, your actions, that’s what makes you who you are.’ So what if? In this version of Superman, Jor-El is revealed to have sent Superman to Earth to conquer it.”

Furthermore, the fan suggested that the movie could show Lex Luthor playing a big part in shaping Superman’s backstory.

The user also said, “Maybe they go with the Superman Birthright comic storyline where Lex gets hold of the Fortress of Solitude and manipulates it. Maybe he finds a way to control what Jor-El says to Superman. Maybe he’s the one that implants this idea that Superman was sent by Kryptonians to conquer. That Kryptonians themselves are evil. And the whole point of this story, this Superman, is to prove that people are not born evil.”

Superman’s original story conveys that Kal-El was sent to Earth by Jor-El after his planet, Krypton, was destroyed. However, whether the origin will be different in the movie or not is currently a mystery. Neither James Gunn nor David Corenswet has touched upon Superman’s origin in interviews yet.
